Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle energy based body therapy.
Every cell in the body expresses a rhythmic movement which is fundamental to life. This movement is called Craniosacral Motion. At the core of the body the Cerebrospinal fluid bathes and cushions the brain and spinal chord, and expresses craniosacral motion in a tide like ebb and flow. Bones, organs and tissues each follow their own pattern of this movement. As a Craniosacral Therapist I have been trained to be able to feel and follow this movement with my hands.
‘Breathed’ into the craniosacral fluid is the ‘breath of life’ which contains all the wisdom your body needs to re establish its own healing mechanisms.
How does it work?
The body responds to physical illness, trauma or stress by contracting tissues. If the shock to the body is severe enough or occurs repeatedly, the tissues remain contracted long after the event. This trauma can be stored in the body and restrict function over time, resulting in such problems as, back & neck pain, headaches, digestive disorders, anxiety or depression. Restrictions in the body show up in the expression of craniosacral motion. Working with Craniosacral Motion I work with your system to identify areas of congestion or restriction, and the cause of the inertia, then aid in the release of tension. As the body releases tensions, the energy that the body was previously using to hold itself in contraction is also released.
Another benefit of treatment – increased energy!
What will happen and what will I feel during a session?
During the session you will be lying fully clothed on a massage table and experience the light touch of my hands. I spend some time quietly tuning into the whole body energy system and then may proceed to use various techniques to aid the body to return to easier levels of functioning. You may feel heat, a deep sense of relaxation, tingling, pulsation or other sensations. All of which are completely normal and may vary with each session. With each treatment the body downloads information and resources and for easier and more comfortable positioning and function. Because the body ‘learns’, more momentum and progress is achieved during each session.
Craniosacral therapy is a client led process so your system will set the pace of the session, ensuring you remain comfortable and able to integrate the changes made during the treatment.
How Many Sessions will I need?
During our work together your body downloads information and resources to ‘learn’ new more comfortable ways of laying down structure and easier ways of functioning. This means that momentum can be gained with each session. A bit like riding a bike, you may have to work hard to pedal initially but then momentum builds and pretty soon pedaling is easy. It is the same with the body. Patterns of strain that have been stuck may take time to unwind and relearn before finding ways to function more comfortably. If you have never had a session before I would recommend committing to 3-6 sessions initially. For those whose system is familiar with Craniosacral therapy 1-3 sessions is usually enough. A more individual recommendation can be given after talking and working with you at your initial session. After the first few sessions many people choose to make CST a regular part of their wellness program and schedule regular maintenance sessions according to their lifestyle and needs.
